Reverse Osmosis Buying Guide

There’s nothing quite like the taste of pure water as close as your tap. Now, you can avoid buying costly water bottles and the hassle of bringing them to your home. Below is a simple guide on what you need to look for when shopping for a reverse osmosis water filter.

Purchasing a Reverse Osmosis Water Filter

Buying the best reverse osmosis water filter system can be tricky, if you do not know the appropriate logistics behind it. In fact, this area is something we get asked about often, so we decided to put together this unbiased guide to help make the buying decision easier.

Here are a few things to consider when choosing a reverse osmosis water filter5 Stage Reverse Osmosis Undersink Water Filter

Are you renting or do you own your own home, if renting you may not be able to install a permanent undersink system in that case a portable countertop system is the perfect choice.

  • Some reverse osmosis systems can waste a lot of water, choose a system that has a high capacity membrane such as 100 gallon per day membrane.
  • Reverse Osmosis systems can vary dramatically in price, if you are choosing an undersink model ensure that the system is AS3497 tested and Watermark approved to handle Australian water pressure.
  • NSF 58 is the certification that you should also look for before buying.

A countertop reverse osmosis is a great choice if you are renting. They come in a wide variety, including the systems that we sell which come in a neat box, which has a pressure gauge to help troubleshoot or alert you to when the filters are blocking, this unit can also be equipped with a Total Dissolved Solids LCD screnn which tells you how pure the water coming out of your unit is.

When choosing a countertop system remeber that production rate of the membrane is important as that will be how quickly you will be able to fill up your water container. The Reverse Osmosis set up is very slow if using a 50 gallon per day membrane, we recommend spending the extra money and fitting the system with a 100 gallon per day membrane.

5 Stage Reverse Osmosis Undersink Water FilterA more permanent solution, a plumbed in undersink reverse osmosis comes with a holding tank which in turn provides pure water at pressure to either a separate drinking water tap or to a 3 way tap that provides hot, cold and filtered water in one kitchen mixer unit. Again as with the countertop systems selecting a high production membrane is a wise choice as less water will go to drain and the tank will fill up more quickly. Also when selecting a system remember that the cartridges will need to be replaced annually at least, therefore cartridge costs and also ease of changing should be at the front of mind. Our quick change system requires no tools and all the cartridges are as easy to change as a light bulb.
